Jazz & Bach
Dialogue between the violinist and the violist, in a program featuring Jazz & Bach.
"Jazz&Bach" is a very unique musical event born out of a encounter between two exceptional French violinists: Claude Halter, a young soloist and only French fellow in the New World Symphony Orchestra (www.nws.edu) and Guillaume Roy, a great figure of contemporary music and improvised Jazz (www.myspace.com/quatuorixi).
Guillaume ROY, violist
Founder of the IXI Quatuor in 1994 (with Regis Huby, Irene Lecoq, and Alain Grange) Guillaume Roy never ceases to explore the possibilities of reinterpretation through improvisation.
He performed in the IXI Quatuor and with other soloists (Louis Sclavis, Joachim Kühn, François Raulin, Pablo Cueco, Veli Kujata (Finland), Pierrick Hardy, videographer Thierry Salvert), and with other formations: (the Danish Trio Sound of Choices, the duo Pifarély Couturier, the Danel Antoine Herve Trio…) Currently he works solo, but also in trio with Hasse Poulsen (guitar) and Bruno Chevillon (cb), with Dédales of Dominique Pifarély, in trio with Claude Tchamitchian (cb) and Vincent Courtois (vlc), in trio with Christophe Monniot (saxes) and Didier Ithursarry (accordion), and with the project Gesualdo David Chevallier, the new big Louzadsak of C. Tchamitchian…
He has also worked with: Denis Colin (nonet et les arpenteurs), Joelle Leandre and Christophe Marguet, Didier Petit, François Raulin (China Project), Yves Rousseau, Bruno Wilhelm, Eric Brochard (quartet), Kent Carter (trio), Antoine Hervé, Edward Perraud, Jean Luc Cappozzo…. Guillaume Roy has played everywhere in France and worldwide (Germany, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Scotland, Estonia, Finland, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela…). He has a real passion for teaching, and has directed the jazz department of the ENMD (National School of Music and Dance of Evry) since 1983.
CLAUDE HALTER, Violinist
Originally from Paris, France, violinist Claude Halter moved to the United States in 2001 and since has been heard playing nation wide as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader. At the age of 8 Claude began his musical education at the Maitrise de Paris where he was a member of the acclaimed boy’s choir. He moved to the United States when he was 19 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at Lawrence University and a Master’s degree at the San Francisco Conservatory where he studied with Stephane Tran N’Goc and Ian Swensen respectively. While at Lawrence University, Claude had the privilege of performing a solo with the Lawrence University Orchestra as well as a nationally broadcast performance as a winner of the N.P.R. Neale Silva Young Artists Music Competition.
As an avid chamber musician, Claude has performed alongside artists such as Menahem Pressler (Beaux-Arts Trio), Robert Mann (Juilliard String Quartet), faculty members of the San Francisco Conservatory, and members of the San Francisco Symphony, Ballet, and Opera. In addition, Claude is a member of the Meridian String Quartet that presents a concert series every summer in Colorado.
