Danielle LOUFRANI, painter

loufrani

Danielle Loufrani was born in 1941. She developed an interest in art during her adolescent years when she taught herself to paint an draw. Although at the Fournier Institute in Paris, she majored in the biological sciences, after graduation she put aside the microscope in favor of the paintbrush and decided to devote herself to the development of her painting skills.

But her studies in the sciences were not wasted, they gave her a strong technical background and the powers of observation and attention to detail that became essential to her art.

By 1966, she had held her first significant gallery exhibitions, at the Boulevard Haussman and the Rue de Seine in Paris. In the tradition of royal court artists of previous centuries, she began painting portraits of the ''kings'' of the rock music world. Her striking portraits of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Elvis Presley won her first place in the 1966 Prize of New York. The winning entries were then exhibited at the Gallerie Duncan on the Seine River.

More than 100 of Loufrani's canvases hang in private collections worldwide, including those in the United States, Japan and France. Her work has been exhibited in both Paris and New York since 1996.

This selection of her most contemporary work addresses such diverse themes as women, Sarajevo, the seven deadly sins, and the four seasons.
This latest exhibition illustrates Loufrani's movement towards a heightened sense of frenetic energy in her compositions. Loufrani's creations are characterized by the use of biblical symbolism and the recurrent leitmotif of the female form.
Via a lifelong dedication to self-expression, she has discovered for herself a work personal in its style but universal in its message.
