It's the late 1920s in Hollywood and handsome George Valentin is a silent movie idol. During the premiere of his latest film, Valentin meets Peppy Miller, a star-struck extra and aspiring actress. The two are attracted to each other and Peppy is given a small dancing role in his next picture. Astheir romance progresses, Valentin's producer has to cope with a love-struck star who is distracted on the set, Peppy's career begins to take off, and Valentin fears that a new fad in the movie business--talkies--will ruin him. SYMPOSIUM TOUR DE FRANCE/FLORIDA @ FROST MUSEUM - JANUARY 21

Contemporary French artists in Florida's private collections: 27 artists from France seen through the multiples views of 22 Florida based private collections. A symposium will go further on this great exhibition on the 21st of January. From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, artists, curators, collectors as well as as the director of the France Florida Foundation for the Arts. From 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, two artists will give performances: Joël Hubaut, mixed media artists, musician and poet at 5:00 and at 6:00 pm, Jacques Halbert of the Eat Art Movement for a very edible performance dinner "A table: Life is a bowl of cherries..."

LECTURE OF DAVID JOSEFIT ABOUT DUCHAMP @ MIAMI ARTS MUSEUM - FEBRUARY 18

Since November, the MAM is presenting the exhibition "De ou Par Marcel Duchamp". To go further on this artist, professor David Josefit from Yale will be there in the 18th of february to present the life and work of the artist.

LIBERTY, EQUALITY AND FRATERNITY @ THE WOLFSONIAN

Borrowing its title from the French national motto, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity provides a vibrant picture of design in France from the 1940s to today. It investigates how objects embody the ideas that have defined French public life for more than two centuries. Featured are furniture, industrial design, and craft by some of the most celebrated French designers of the present and recent past, including Roger Tallon, Pierre Paulin, Philippe Starck, and the Bouroullec Brothers.

COGNAC TASTING, A WORLD OF SENSES - MONDAY JANUARY 23

Discover the Art of Cognac, the refinement of Cognac tasting, in direct line with a panel of France’s finest artisan cognac makers and distillers. Three evenings of reflective lecture and tasting. Sweet or Salted appetizers will accompany the class. The first one will deal with the art of distillation, the blending and ageing.
