Together
A solo exhibition by Alice Raymond

Friday, April 23 to Friday, May 14
Opening Reception Friday, April 23 - 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm

Taking inspiration of environment and people, I look for adjusting different ways to look at people, cultural background of individual, and environment, with elements of landscape.
I currently work out of my apartment, which is located in Little Haiti. It was here that I understood the connection I was creating with Florida: its mixed communities, vegetation, and its living history.

I work on mixing and tangle, with lines and colored areas. I like to work on two or three projects at a time. It is part of a process.
I like to let them breathe, and slowly see how I will work on them further.
I like to work with a piece while another is drying. I like to hang them to look at them, and go back on it until it is done.

The work grows layer by layer. Each layer changes the whole balance of the piece and enriches it.
I sometimes alternate oil pastels and acrylics. I use a lot of water, and sometimes oil too.
This process is an absolute delight for me. I would hope that this feeling is contagious and that the public will be delighted as well!
I like to use my mixed method on paper and canvas by alternating small formats as well as large, tall formats.

During my trips, layers and mix take shape as photographs and sketches. I observe what happens around until the landscapes show their complexity, melting nature and human signs.
Back in the current home, all the visual information I collected create new pieces, from tangled sculptures to paintings, putting everything Together, bit-by-bit…

Alice Raymond
Born in the suburbs of Paris, educated in Bordeaux Fine Art School and the University of Science of Language of Grenoble, she is currently based in Miami, Florida, after being based in Stockholm (Sweden), Bordeaux (France) and Trier (Germany) in the past.
Since she arrived in Florida, the cosmogony of the Caribbean culture became a perfect backdrop for her work. Like a mangrove swamp, the root sprouts and grows interconnected with other roots.
